I actually figured from the very beginning that there wasn't going to be a resolution to the older mystery -- it was just too mysterious. So I wasn't surprised when I got to the end of the book and there was no resolution, which means I also wasn't disappointed.
I totally recommend reading her second book, The Likeness -- it is similarly well-written, but there's no cliffhanger. :)
