Day 04 - Your favorite show ever

This is hard. This is hard because for a very long time, my favorite television show was Swans Crossing, a half-hour teen drama from 1992 that only aired 65 episodes. It starred (in order of how famous they are now) Sarah Michelle Gellar, Brittany Daniel, Shane McDermott, and a bunch of people I am comfortable saying that you have never heard of. It was convoluted, totally ridiculous, and had its own dance (that link is to the YouTube video of the music video they made for the full-length version of theme song). I was twelve, it was half amazing and half totally stupid (and the stupid parts, I fixed with fanfic).

But... I don't think that is my favorite show anymore. I mean, I have almost all the episodes (I had them on videotape and I digitally converted them several years ago and burned them to DVD) -- and someone posted them all to YouTube (here's the first part of the first episode). I still remember everything about the show, all the trivia, all the ridiculous stuff. When I was in junior high, my younger sister was on Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and I went with her and my mom to the filming solely because it was filmed at Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens -- where Swans Crossing had been filmed in studio G. Even though it was more than a year later, Swans Crossing was still on the board. I tried to take pictures, but that was before digital cameras -- I had a small point and shoot and all the pictures were ruined by the flash.

But if you click through when you get to YouTube and look at any of the episodes, you'll see why I don't watch it anymore. I mean, it's pretty terrible -- the writing, the acting, the production values. The plot.

(I am thinking about writing a Swans Crossing story for [community profile] kink_bingo, though, since I always thought Glory and Callie should have ditched their loser boyfriends and hooked up!)

So yeah. What's my favorite show now? What does "favorite show" even mean? Is it the show I watch the most often? The show that makes me the happiest? The show that is the most satisfying? I don't know. If you walk into my living room on any given day, there are a few shows you may notice are on in the background while I work: Doctor Who (Nine or Ten); Farscape; The Office (mostly seasons 2 and 3); Alias (I rewatch all of Alias every year); Leverage (new to the rotation but no less satisfying for it!); The West Wing (usually only seasons 1 - 3); Star Trek: The Next Generation

(Right now my copies of the due South dvds are in storage; if they weren't, they'd be in this rotation, too.)

(These aren't the only shows I watch, but they are my comfort shows, when I need comfortable background noise.)

I might be leaving something out, but if I am, I can't think of it at the moment.
