Do the booksellers tend to just take X number of copies of each month's release without worrying too much about covers, reviewer quotes and such? Do the print runs and promotion and art tend to similiar across the board?

AHAHAH NO!! I WISH OMG. No, despite our efforts, they don't take 100,000 copies of every single book. We have to sell them on every single one, not to mention provide liberal amounts of discounting and coops. The cover art has to be awesome, the quotes have to be excellent--etc. It is a crapload of work. But they are worth it.
