Book meme: Day 07

I was really upset yesterday to hear that Target is donating money to an anti-GLBTQ politician, who also has very close ties to a music group that promotes killing GLBTQ people. Are you kidding me? I signed Change.org's petition, and I'll be writing a letter to Target. I mean. Come on, Target. I love to spend money at Target stores -- books, jersey knit bedsheets, magazines, makeup, clothes. Oh, Target sells great clothes for fat women that I love to buy.

Not anymore, though. If someone kills me, I wouldn't be able to spend money at Target -- and Target is supporting a politician who thinks I should die. Nice, Target. Really nice.

Ugh ugh ugh.

Okay, more cheerful: fera_festiva's fanwork about Steampunk Lady Gaga is incredibly charming. It includes art, a "fake" news article, and a rewriting of "Telephone" -- have a sample:

I suggest doing what I did, and reading the whole thing out loud to an audience -- way more enjoyable that way, particularly if you affect a terrible British accent, which I am fond of doing.

Day 07 - Least favorite plot device employed by way too many books you actually enjoyed otherwise

Anyone who has ever talked to me about books (or had me for an editor!) knows my least favorite plot device: miscommunication. Yuck yuck yuck! If I never read another book (or fanfic, or see another movie or television show) with miscommunication as its driving plot, it will be way too soon. Any time the Gordian Knot of a plot can be sliced through with a sword of one scene in which people speak frankly to each other, I put the book down. Life is too short.

Thanks for the Target link. I was actually planning to make a Target run on my way home today, but now? Not so much. (Also thanks for the meme. I love it tons, even though I am working on it on the every-other-day schedule myself. Yay books.)

I think that's one of the great things about the meme -- you can adjust it to any time schedule you want!

I too am pissed about Target. I need bedsheets, and now I can't get them.
