How can you convert the information on your royalty statements into this information -- I suppose you can't, because you don't know what the cover and the publicity and so on cost. Is there some way the author can find this stuff out?
(I did consider logging out and posting this question anonymously... but heck, I don't suppose it's any news to anyone that all of this has always been a complete mystery to me. I am finding these posts very illuminating.)
