TV Show Meme! Day 5!

algDay 05 - A show you hate
Gosh. I don't know. There are a lot of shows I dislike intensely -- and some of them I still watch. Oh, wait, no -- that is not true anymore. This season of Supernatural was definitely my breaking point with that show, so I'm no longer regularly watching anything that regularly offends me.
But shows I hate? I guess I'd have to say shows like The Biggest Loser and America's Next Top Model -- shows that reinforce a contrived and ridiculous "beauty standard" attained (or attempted) by people at horrifying cost to mental and physical health. I'm also not a fan of gossip shows (like, whatever, stuff on E!), and I loathe shows like Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz, that bullshit pseudo-medical crap for entertainment. At best, I think it's exploitative and ridiculous; at worst, it's dangerous because people take that crap seriously. Regardless, watching any of the above-listed types of shows makes me intensely uncomfortable and unhappy, so I stay away as much as possible.
(Thank heavens for Netflix -- I'm perfectly happy to pay my monthly money in exchange for not having to see a Top Model or Biggest Loser ad while I'm trying to watch Numb3rs or The Office or whatever.)
